“Di barche e di battelli o de schifi e schifareddhi”, sails in the wind and tales of the sea

Within the framework of the AETHER project, co-financed by the INTERREG Greece-Italy program, a captivating exhibition of traditional boats titled “Di barche e di battelli o de schifi e schifareddhi”.

The exhibition is set up at the Regional Center for the promotion of traditional maritime culture, maritime craftsmanship and seafood products, created thanks to the AETHER project in Tricase (LE).

Eolo, Franca, Lela, Delfino, Rosa di Santa Teresa, Prospero, Aurelia, Santa Lucia, San Nicola and Mariagrazia, each carrying a unique story steeped in life, expertise, historical, and cultural values, are the true protagonists of the exhibition. Through their fascinating stories, they bring to life an engaging and memorable experience.

During the visit, the boats are passionately narrated by the elderly builders, shipwright masters, and their descendants. To enrich the narrative, the authentic voices of representatives from fishing families, living witnesses of a past intertwined with the present, are included.

The experts from the Magna Grecia Mare Association, the curator of the exhibition, are authentic guardians of this timeless maritime heritage and contribute their valuable insights, sharing experiences and knowledge, making the visit a journey into the pulsating heart of Puglia’s maritime culture.

The exhibition is an immersive journey. Visitors experience a unique blend of past and present, tradition and innovation.

The event aims to engage sea and traditional boat enthusiasts, curious youth and the entire community to strengthen the inseparable bond between maritime culture, the surrounding environment, and promote sustainable development by connecting the past and present to design the future. An event destined to remain vivid in the memories of anyone who crosses the threshold of this extraordinary exhibition.

The exhibition will continue at least until December 31.
