The Rena and The Sette Bocche

La Rena e le Sette Bocche complex is the historic landing of Tricase, with what remains of the landing beach and the caves, natural and excavated by men.

The Gallone family owned two caves: one called “della Feluca” and the other named “Lo Scaro”.

The University of Tricase managed the “Seven mouths cave”. The importance of the inlet became significant in the 15th century when the arrival of the Del Balzo Orsini family led to an increase in trade, especially in food and craft products (oil, textiles, wood, iron, tow, hemp, paper, skins, cups, precious stones).

The caves served as places for the first storage of goods and as the headquarters of a surveillance office.

The trade that passed through the port allowed a conspicuous economic fallout in the feudal system of lower Salento.

Today it is a complex dedicated to social participation and integration, to cultural initiatives and to the promotion of the territory.
