PUBLIC MEETING IN TRICASE: ENHANCEMENT AND PROTECTION OF THE OTRANTO-LEUCA MARINE PROTECTED AREA

Next Saturday, January 13, 2024, starting from 5:30 PM, the town will host a public meeting dedicated to exploring the value of the Marine Protected Area located between Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca and the economic, social and environmental development opportunities associated with it.

Organized by the Municipality of Tricase in collaboration with CIHEAM Tricase and the Port Museum of Tricase, the event is part of the BLUE TYRE project. This project, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), is led by the Municipality of Tricase and actively involves significant entities from Apulia such as Cooperazione nei Territori del Mondo – CTM, the University of Salento, the Naturalia Cooperative, and the Magna Grecia Mare Association.

The BLUE TYRE project aims to engage local authorities and communities in implementing measures for adapting to and preventing risks related to climate change. Furthermore, it promotes the adoption of environmental monitoring services and the management of marine and coastal waste to preserve the marine ecosystem and ensure long-term sustainable development.

The public meeting on January 13 is a unique opportunity to deepen understanding of the rich ecosystem of the Marine Protected Area and raise awareness within the community about the fundamental need to preserve it. Active participation from the citizens is encouraged, as it is through awareness and collective action that the safeguarding and sustainable development goals outlined by the Blue Tyre project can be achieved.

This event is part of a broader context of commitment, collaboration, and shared efforts to build a future where the beauty and richness of the marine environment are at the heart of harmonious progress, capable of preserving the natural heritage for future generations.
