DATE WITH “TRAMARE”

The ancient art of basket making and the skill of the old “nassari” (fish trap makers) and the basket makers who still know the ancient techniques of it, were the undisputed protagonists, yesterday, of the Date with TRAMARE event.

The event wanted to enhance and rediscover the ancient art of weaving reeds and suckers, now preserved in the memory of a few elderly people, with the aim of perpetuating their technique.

Born to respond to the need to transport objects and products of any nature, as well as to create efficient traps for fishing, this ancient art has been perfected over the centuries, developing complex weaves that have given rise to an infinite number of creations.

The event was organized within the framework of the Arca Adriatica project, co-financed by the Interreg Italy-Croatia program and aimed at structuring, consolidating and transmitting the complex cultural and natural heritage linked to the maritime history of the coastal communities of the Adriatic.

Tramare is one of the appointments of the Academy of Ancient Crafts promoted by CIHEAM Bari as a partner of the Arca Adriatica project and created in the Port Museum of Tricase, in cooperation with the Municipal School of Lateen Sailing  and Ancient Seafaring.
